ESG-friendly manufacturer attains zero-waste production with Azure IoT

Awara IT is delighted to share the first implementation of Azure IoT for an eco-friendly cutlery producer Ecospunz. As a relatively new business, it already delivers up to 1 million spoons, knives and forks globally, targeting to become zero-waste manufacturer. Currently, Ecospunz has to consider that cutlery production requires certain temperatures, humidity level and smokiness. Another issue is spending extra on cleaning production site and dumping waste (sawdust) into recycle trucks urgently, as it had high risks of spontaneous combustion. Awara IT came up with a combination of Azure IoT, Power BI and Microsoft Teams solution. Azure sensors collect data from the production line and factory itself and track the temperature of steam (98C) which is a core factor of high-quality product. Real-time information about humidity and smokiness is also collected and later used to create Power BI reports. Project results:— Data from sensors gives a real-time picture at the production site— Cutlery quality is under control, as critical parameters are monitored 24*7*365— Power BI reports include information about any failures. It can be used in negotiations with contractors to prove their fault— Elimitating potentially dangerous scenarios at production site— Zero-waste production supports local ecology, as there is not need to cut more trees to make biomass briquettes or litter boxes.  For more information about this project please see a short interview with Ecospunz CEO or fill out the form below.

Interview: cybersecurity in logistics from transportation to data transfer

Is it worth thinking about cybersecurity during the season’s holidays times? Indeed and here is why it is important. Delivery services are overbooked, online payments are made even more often than during regular months. People rush to do as much as possible before the new year begins, which adds more security risks to the courier, logistics, and retail businesses. Even more, if you travel during this season that is also a part of the logistics process. Key insights: Reliable cybersecurity system will put you only one step behind the intruder, not few steps behind Logistics processes contain more sensitive data than social networks 60% of cyber attacks in Russia harm logistics processes and businesses What should all logistic companies consider in terms of security, what types of businesses are hacked more often, and when is the right time to invest in cybersecurity? Legislation changes in Russia: accounting transactions storage for Dynamics 365

Here is a much-needed explanation of how to meet new Russian legislation requirements related to accounting transaction storage and use cloud ERPs that are hosted outside the territory of Russia. Combined and explained by Alexander Ermakov, Managing partner at Awara IT at his Russian ERP Experience Dynamics community blog. There are a few upcoming legislation changes for Russian accounting, related to accounting transactions storage. That should have had its impact starting from 1st of January, 2022. Many users have questions about how to interpret and apply new upcoming legislation, and would it still be possible to use cloud versions of (any) ERP solutions that are hosted outside of the territory of Russia. Here is an explanation on that matter: The law “Accounting Standard FSBU 27/2021” states that accounting transactions “should be kept in the database on the territory of Russia”. There has been nothing but this statement in the upcoming law, therefore certain clarifying questions have been directed to the governmental bodies. Currently, lawyers who analyze this legal statement take the following points into account: This new law does not anyhow restrict or limit the creation/input/processing of accounting data outside of the territory of Russia This law does not anyhow requires to have the accounting data initially created in the databases on the territory of Russia (as it is indicated e.g. for Personal Data) There is no any indication to use any specific (accounting) system There is no any limitation to use several accounting systems The nature of accounting itself assumes there is no “real-time” accounting transactions taking place – accounting itself by nature is a reactive thing and usually it takes some time to record a transaction in the database. Moreover, real-time accounting is not even possible. Example: physical equipment is being depreciated every day, however there is no requirement to post depreciation the same every day; we post it, as most convenient, in the end of every month for the whole month. The same is not mentioned anyhow in this new law, and in reality it can take few months before the accounting transaction is created (as we have quarterly reporting, e.g. some January transactions can be actually recorded even in April for preparation of 1st quarter report) When an economic entity creates primary accounting documents, it is allowed to: Draw up several related facts of economic life with one primary document Formalize long-lasting facts of economic activity (for example, interest calculations, depreciation of assets, changes in the value of assets and liabilities), as well as recurring facts of economic activity (for example, the supply of goods or products in batches on different dates under one long-term contract) by primary accounting documents drawn up at intervals (day, week, month, quarter) determined by the economic entity based on the essence of the fact of economic activity and requirements rationality, assuming their compulsory compilation at the reporting date Having all that in mind, all experts so far consider that it would be enough to keep the backup copy of the database, deployed on-premises or in the local Russian data center,

Awara IT is a global ERP provider for Reima

About the customer: Reima is a globally leading functional kids wear brand. Challenge With a rapidly growing global business, Reima’s main challenge was to adopt a global ERP solution that would grow together with its customer base, so D365BC was the right solution. Reima and Awara IT started cooperating in 2012, with the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics NAV in Russia, and later Dynamics 365 BC in Canada and USA, Microsoft Dynamics NAV in Europe and China, and Dynamics 365 for Sales and Customer Services in Europe and North America enhanced by Azure services for analytics and reporting. The company will in 2021 upgrade its ERP system in Europe and China by migrating from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Dynamics 365 BC. Founded in Finland in 1944, Reima has been dedicated to and inspired by kids. Today, Reima serves customers from over 70 countries across three continents. Business is growing: sales demand is increasing globally. The company is expanding to new markets, adding new sales channels and partners. The most challenging aspects were to manage Reima’s growth and timely respond to external changes, so having a flexible ERP which would support Reima’s processes and global supply chain, reducing “order to cash” time was one of the key success factors. Solution Awara IT implemented a global ERP template based on Dynamics 365 BC in North America first and globally later. Awara IT covered the local specifics of Reima’s markets and added new scalable integrations (integrations with logistics partners in Canada and USA, integration with Shopify for e-com, catalogues, prices, orders; integration with Amazon Marketplace, Elastic Suite b2b portal, EDI providers in USA/Canada, and compliance with Russian legislation on EDI and labelling, etc.) All this enables Reima to grow with no IT-related limits. Results Reima got a single ERP unifying its business processes across the globe. It can be easily applied to new markets, enhancing local specifics with unified business processes. These integrations help saving time in production sites in Asia and for end-customers anywhere in the world. All departments work within the unified system and better serve customers by finding the right information, getting relevant data about stocks, sales, etc.

Enapter, IoT and Microsoft Partner of the Year by Awara IT

Winning the Microsoft Russia Partner Solutions competition is an achievement that would not have been possible without our clients, especially when this is thanks to thirteen projects – a number which is unprecedented in our history. We would like to thank our clients once again and look back on the projects we have implemented that are deemed to be the best among Russian solutions. Let’s start with Enapter, a manufacturer of hydrogen generation equipment. This project won in the category Internet of Things. To win in this category, it was necessary to demonstrate the exceptional characteristics of Microsoft Azure services to achieve the client’s objectives, the effect of the solution on the client’s business, and quantitative results. The interaction with Microsoft teams to solve customer problems was also assessed, so here we owe a special mention and thanks to Microsoft Russia represented by our guardian angels Alexey Trofimov and Alexey Sologovnikov. Enapter designs and manufactures highly efficient hydrogen generators. Enapter has invented the first scalable electrolyzer to replace fossil fuels with green hydrogen. Although the technology is still expensive and requires a significant engineering capability, Enapter has set ambitious goals and wants to make this energy of the future ubiquitous. Enapter has been building its own cloud platform for 3 years and has worked on Ruby on Rails, Timescale DB, Docker, Grafana and Kubernetes. Despite the short timeframe, the approach came off as optimal, and the solution was very efficient. The efforts that the company made to develop the product, however, did not always translate into quick results as many things needed to be developed: visual monitoring of sensor indicators had to be implemented, situations had to be simulated on digital twins, the safety of devices had to be monitored, and an anomaly detector had to be developed. This required several more years of development and production. The first demonstrations of Azure services did away with the initial skepticism, and it was decided to start using Azure IoT, Azure Anomaly detector, Azure Digital Twins, and other services. How to predict the amount of energy that should be sold rather than used in a household? Will the energy be used in an hour, or will it last for four days? These and many other questions were easily answered by Azure out-of-the-box services. Microsoft solutions helped model and predict energy needs, equipment problems, and sensor network performance based on the data collected. Today, 40 indicators are monitored in real time: temperature, pressure, water flow and level, voltage, energy surplus, failure prediction, and demand prediction. This helps manage the power system and warns of potential problems. IoT and digital twin solutions together with anomaly detector models have allowed Enapter to avoid protracted investments in developing its own solution. We estimate that Enapter solutions could have reached the market 2 years earlier than it did if they had been built based on Azure from the beginning. We continue working with Enapter not only on project development, but Awara IT and Enapter experts have also

Advertising holding processes briefs with Power Platform

About our customer Dentsu is a Japanese advertising and communication holding operating in 145 countries. One of the TOP 2 players in the Russian advertising market, it is a leader in digital communications. Challenges and solutions Media agencies and other structural divisions of the holding process daily briefs (requests) from clients for planning and launching advertising campaigns. Employees discuss briefs in Microsoft Teams and mail. The company decided to automate this process using Power Platform. First, Dentsu was already using Microsoft 365 E3 licenses, and second, it was this platform that offered flexibility in customization, integrations and design, and also allowed getting quick results in the development of MVP (minimum viable product). Results Awara IT developed an app for convenient interaction between functional departments and customers with incoming client requests (briefs). The app allows managing briefs, measuring task performance, adding comments with attachments, and tracking versions of briefs. All this is done with a user-friendly interface. Moreover, thanks to a single workspace powered by Microsoft Teams, users get timely updates on the work with specific customers. All this helps performing daily tasks more efficiently. As a result, the company can now manage the efficiency of brief processing and monitor work-in-progress losses. We keep on developing the app so that one day it ends up being in the company like “e-government services”.
